Kunpeng Liu is an Assistant Professor in the School of Computing at Clemson University, where he directs the CLAIM Lab (Clemson AI and Data Mining Lab). He received his Ph.D. in Computer Science from the University of Central Florida in 2022, and his M.E. and B.E. in Automation from the University of Science and Technology of China.

His research focuses on three areas: reinforcement learning, large language models, and AI for science. In RL and LLMs, he works on RL-based post-training for LLM alignment and reasoning. In AI for science, he develops decision-making and data-driven methods for geothermal energy and emergency medical services. He also works on data-centric AI. Three of his papers were Best Paper Award Candidates at ICDM 2021, CIKM 2025, and ICDM 2025. He serves as an Area Chair for NeurIPS, ICML, ICLR, WWW, and ACL Rolling Review, and has served on the organizing committees of IEEE BigData 2026, IEEE BIBM 2026, IEEE ICDM 2025, IEEE ICKG 2024, and IEEE BigData 2024. He is a recipient of the NSF CRII Award and the NSF CAREER Award.
